Board Member: Wells Whitney

Dr. Wells Whitney, the founder and chairman of RENEW SF, has lived in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood for twenty years. Professionally, he worked as a research scientist until his retirement in 1988, upon which he devoted much of his time to community service throughout the city. Currently, Wells serves as a director of SPUR, Greenbelt Alliance, International Institute of San Francisco, and on several boards related to cancer advocacy and treatment. Known for his business acumen and vast experiences, Wells has been sought by both domestic as well as international companies as a business consultant.

Wells' heart is always in the betterment of the neighborhood and city where he lives. In addition to his activity as a SPUR director, Wells founded RENEW SF a year ago together with Marvin Kasoff. The mission of the organization is to advocate for sound urban and transportation planning with the goal of achieving economic revitalization and aesthetic improvements of the Northeast sector of the city. He believes that the neighborhood will benefit from positive changes as a result of coordinated efforts among community organizations as well as professional experts. His leadership has resulted in RENEW SF being the recipient of a Caltran grant to conduct transportation study of Columbus Avenue, a major boulevard in the northeast sector of the city.
